I wanted to develop a photography book using the word gauche as both a lens and a provocation. Traditionally dismissed as awkward or lacking refinement, gauche exists in opposition to the polished and the poised. But what if we reconsidered it? What if gauche is not a flaw but a form of honesty?
Through this project, I want to challenge the boundaries of taste and propriety, exploring the beauty in what is unpolished, unselfconscious, and out of step with convention. In a world obsessed with curation and control, gauche could be a refuge of the authentic. By capturing these fleeting, imperfect moments on Polaroid film - a medium itself known for its unpredictability. I hope to reframe gauche as more than just a social misstep.
Instead, I want Gauche to be a moniker of presence and a celebration of the unfiltered.
